Exciting Things Are Happening

April 15th was the last time I blogged and other than paying my taxes, a lot has happened since then. Here's a peek at my last 2 months:

1. I GRADUATED COLLEGE!

That's right, I'm now Miss Janah James B.A. (I know, no one actually puts that at the end of their name, but after 4 long and hard years, I really want to sometimes.) I am also currently unemployed, so you know, if you know anyone that needs to hire someone who's very skilled in marketing/communications/public relations/social media and/or French, send them my way.

2. I'm moving back to Lexington
While it's been great living with my parents again, I miss my independence. Don't get me wrong. I have a great relationship with my parents, love them dearly, and am very thankful for all their provision, but I'm just in that stage of life. It's time to be on my own.
I'll have two roommates (Sharayah being one) and we've found a SUPER adorable house we're going to rent. More to blog about later.

3. I learned how to breathe fire
Yup, I may as well join the circus (which seems like a reasonable option at this point of still being jobless). Check out the sweet picture. 'Merica.

4. Tyler and I got to meet and hang out with The Lone Bellow

I've blogged about The Lone Bellow and how amazing their music is, but hearing it live is even better. Tyler and I may fall into the groupie/obsessed category at this point, since we'll be making our third trip in 3 months to hear them, but we have no shame. Not only do they make great music, but they're genuinely great people. Check out when they played on Jay Leno. AMAZING!

5. Sydney is finally getting married!
Tomorrow is the big day! I'm her very excited Maid of Honor and can't wait! I'll be sure to post pictures soon.

Oh, and I'm still with this guy. I'm so thankful for him :)

Job Searching

I realize that I still have another year of college before I graduate, but I'm already starting to freak out. I'm glad I didn't decide to graduate early, because the imminent beginning of starting a career would be even closer, plus, I love college life. As a planner and having a slightly type A personality, I've already started job searching, reading blogs and networking in hopes someone will want to offer me a job in a year or so.

Today, I was part of a live chat that MSNBC's Today, hosted with Alexandra Levit "a business and workplace author, speaker and consultant." People sent in their questions about entering the work force as a recent college grad.  I asked her what is a reasonable salary to except in an entry level job. She suggested that I check out salary.com, payscale.com and glassdoor.com to see what to expect for different areas of work. They are great resources and have a lot more info than just salary data.

People asked great questions and she had great answers. The picture below takes you to the Today Money site with the transcript at the bottom. The site has a lot of money saving tips as well.

I'm still debating between grad school and getting a job once I graduate. I always have the fear that I'll work retail until I can find a job, but I'll never really find one and forever sell lotion, mint smelling foot scrubs and will have to deal with middle schoolers who try to steal mini hand sanitizers. I know this is ridiculous, because the Lord already knows what he has planned for me and it will certainly be satisfying.

The End of the School Year Sentimental Post

That's right, it's the end of the school year and I'm becoming sentimental and reflective of my past three years here at Asbury.  Freshman year I was the class president, Sophomore year I was the class vice-president, this year I headed up the Special Events Committee and rocked Asbury's first all school dance.  It's been a great experience and I've collected so many memories. This time next year is going to be rough.

I'm excited to see what God has in store for me this summer. I've written down my list of summer goals and although I'm not working on solving world hunger this summer, it should be fun. I have an internship at the Pentagon and am going to Honduras. Bring on the adventure.

I still have one more year, but having friends that are just a year older than me graduating next week, I feel as though I need to figure the rest of my life out. Do I go to grad school or just find a big girl job? I'll just try to get through the summer for now.
